Fannie Lou Hamer was a force to be reckoned with!! She was a civil rights activist, a women's rights activist, and an amazing community organizer and advocate in Mississippi. Fannie was born on a plantation to a sharecropping family, and she was in her 40s when she found out that she had the right to vote. She joined the SNCC and became committed to not only voting herself, but registering other black people to vote. This was no small feat in Mississippi in the 50s. It was one of the hardest states for black people to live in at the time but Fannie was determined and her determination sparked a movement. Unfortunately, her passion for freedom led to her being shot at several times, beaten, and all around disrespected. Fannie was disrupting the status quo and bigots tried to force her to be quiet, but she demanded to be heard, and her passion made set a wave of change through the country. Fannie was RESILIENT and this tee is to honor HER STORY!
