Long before America celebrated its first birthday, a young Black girl named Grace Wisher was helping sew one of its most enduring symbols.
At just 13 years old, Grace Wisher worked alongside Mary Pickersgill to create the Star-Spangled Banner, the flag that would come to represent the United States. Though history remembers the flag, many Americans have never heard her name.
This design honors Grace Wisher and the countless Black women whose hands, hearts, labor, and perseverance have been woven into the fabric of America since the very beginning.
For generations, Black women have helped build this nation as educators, entrepreneurs, artists, activists, mothers, and community leaders. Yet too often their stories have remained untold. Red, White & Grace celebrates not only one young girl who helped stitch a flag, but the generations of women who helped stitch together the American story itself.
As America approaches its 250th anniversary, this design serves as a reminder that Black history is American history. The threads of our nation's story cannot be separated from the women who helped create it.
Because we've been here from the beginning.
Because our stories matter.
Because resilience is part of the American fabric.
Red, White & Grace.
250 Years of Resilience.
